Keep an eye on what your competition is doing:

Whether a startup or an already established business, whether an online store or a retail outlet, you must keep an eye on what your competition is doing to either upgrade, replicate or keep track. With this you can find out your compititor’s SEO strategy. There is no argument in saying that ‘change is constant’ and hence today or tomorrow, someone would bring the revolutionary change without any notification. For this very reason, know who your customer is and keep a close eye on them to either start a follow-up strategy or do something even more innovative as you have may already lose the first mover option.

Keywords:

Finding the right keywords is the key to being visible to your target audience. First of all know which target audience you want to serve or cater and realize what their most commonly used phrase, terms or keywords are. For example, you might be running an online store of shirts, and hence your keyword would be like ‘best shirts’ ‘shirts on sale’ ‘quality shirts’ etc.

These keywords, however, may change based on the category you are targeting, but the product that you are selling should be part of your keyword.

Optimize title and Meta tags:

Meta tags and HTML titles must be different on every page of your site. Since everyone wishes to rank on the very first page of Google, experts have recommended keeping the two options different from one another. Furthermore, Google has announced that their ranking criteria do not consider Meta keywords tag which would restrict its discussion over here.

Optimize your headings, subheadings and more:
